V8 Superboats emerged from the development of Jetboats in New Zealand which were designed to negotiate shallow waterways for farmers, but very soon developed into an extreme form of motorsport.

There are three classes of competition in Australia, the pinnacle of which is the unlimited class.

In this category boats with as much as 2000-horsepower running forced induction big blocks and drinking methanol make the 0-120kph sprint in well under 2-seconds, whilst also cornering at north of 7Gs.
