The wildest show on earth is set to blast into 2023 in a haze of tyre smoke when round four of the Burson Auto Parts Australian Top Fuel Championship lands at Willowbank Raceway, Jan 6-7.

The event, dubbed New Year Nitro, sees the fastest drag racing vehicles in the country on track over two massive days and nights with vital championship points on the line as drivers continue their battle for the biggest prize in drag racing – the Stan Sainty Cup.

Top Fuel headlines the massive New Year Nitro lineup that also includes Top Doorslammer, Top Fuel Motorcycle, Pro Mod, Pro Stock and Sportsman categories. Joining the on-track action is a huge firework spectacular, show and shine, food trucks, more.

“We’re really excited about Top Fuel’s return to racing in Queensland and I know that all of the teams and drivers are keen to put on a terrific show for the fans in

January,” Top Fuel Racing Australia’s Nathan Prendergast explained. “The vibe at each of the events in our first season was electric with the crowd really getting behind the teams and cheering them on to some awesome performances. Drag racing is the most exciting motorsport on the planet and I can’t think of a better way to ring in the new year than a nitro party in Queensland.”

Peter Xiberras, reigning champion and driver of the PremiAir Hire Racing Top Fuel Dragster was similarly eager about Top Fuel’s return to the venue.

“I can’t wait to climb back into the cockpit in Queensland! We’ve travelled all around the country in the last year and had a great time with fans at a heap of different venues who loved seeing and feeling the horsepower, so I can’t wait to bring the PremiAir Racing team back to Willowbank for round four.”

The event also forms round four of the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship with West Aussie John Zappia is planning on a big points haul in the Dananni Hot Shots/Fuchs Lubricants Monaro to help secure another shot at the title for season 2022/23.

“We’ve had a solid start to the season having top qualified and made the final in Alice Springs against Kelvin Lyle. We’ve still got to run that final in Perth at the Goldenstates and then get everything ready for the long journey across the country to Willowbank. I’ve had some great success racing there in the past and I’d love to celebrate the new year with a win.”

There is no doubt that this will be a huge event and there’s still plenty of time for traders and sponsors to get on board, and welcome in 2023 with a big dose of nitro fuelled excitement.

“Competition entries and spectator tickets are already on-sale and early indications are that we’ll see a big crowd descend on Willowbank in early Jan,” said Matt Rice, director, Media Scrum.

“Our goal is to work with brands to leverage their investment, drive sales and deliver measurable outcomes, something that is missing in many sponsorships,” Matt added.
